Thrifty Finds.

Today being New Years Eve and not having made any plans for the day when I woke up this morning I went about making myself comfortable for a very chilled out day- i.e. lying in my pajamas watching YouTube videos whilst slowly working my way through a half eaten Milk Tray (it's a hard life, I know).  So when my aunt asked if I wanted to go for a dig through the SPCA charity shop I had second thoughts about leaving the cosy nest on my bed.  Needless to say I came home very chuffed that I had decided to go in the end as even though I wasn't really looking for anything I particular I purchased a fair bit.

Firstly I got this old brown leather suitcase to store records in.  I've been looking for one for a while now as all the suitcases I've seen in thrift stores have invariably been the wrong color or too big or both.  I was very excited when I found this as it wasn't even on the shop floor but in a pile of stuff in the back room that I found when looking through their boxes of records.  I'm very pleased with it and look forward to filling it up with even more records.

Next I got this cute little owl.  I picked it up at the last minute just before paying and thought why not? He'll fit right in with everything else on my desk.

I also picked up these two glass jars, for my room, which as you can see in the picture have already been decorated and are ready to be used.

Last but certainly not least I got this old Star Wars movie poster.  Now I can't claim to be the world's biggest Star Wars fan as I only got round to watching them this year and whilst I did enjoy it I wouldn't say it made my top ten.  I think there's something quite geeky yet cool about this poster and I decided it would make a great addition to my wall.  When I first found it there were a tense couple seconds in which I thought that my morning could end like something out of a chick flick- in a battle to see who got to buy it but fortunately it didn't go that way and the poster is now mine, and I think it's pretty darn cool.

Anyway, Happy New Year and all that jazz.  I was going to write a blog post on some of my goals for next year but due to lack of forethought, planning, time, energy, tea, chocolate, etc, etc I think it shall wait for tomorrow.  Adios muchachos.

Four Eyes.

Guess who got glasses?

ME :D

They're mainly for reading the board in class or watching movies but I can definitely see (excuse the cringeful pun) that they're making a difference- and I also really like the frames.

Hope you've all had a lovely Christmas and Boxing Day!

Rainbow cupcakes.

Today Jade came over and we made rainbow cupcakes.  We used a normal cupcake recipe and before baking we divided the batter into four bowls and added food colouring to each one.  We then layered the four types of batter into cupcake cases, baked them and finished them off with butter icing.

Jade taught me how to ice with piping bags.

Then we drank tea and ate them!

Pastels.

If you follow me on Pinterest you may have noticed that I have an slight obsession with all things pastel at the moment.  So I thought why not put them all into one blog post to drool over?

Sigh. So pretty.

Photo bunting.

I've been wanting to make bunting to decorate my room for a while now and the other day I thought of the idea to use photo's in the triangles to make it with.  I didn't want the pictures to be too overpowering so I put old book paper on the back of each photo and then alternated them as I hung them.  I think it's really pretty and an interesting, different way to display pictures.
It was quite hard to take a picture of the whole string because it's on my ceiling so this was the best I could do.

Girl put your records on.

About a week ago I went shopping at the Kloof SPCA and bought these records to add to my collection.  I also bought a big frame for my room and some shirts-some of which shall remain as they are and others that will be changed- but I'll shall those some other time.  I particularly love the cover of the Elvis Blue Hawaii one, it's just too cool.

Apologies.

I know, I know: I haven't blogged in a while. I've been without my laptop for the past week and without a phone for the last few days because of a choir camp that I went to.  Also, as is tradition whenever I go on a camp, I am now sick.  Yaaaay. This isn't much of a post but I promise I will try blog more later in the week.  In the meantime, I found this picture on Pinterest and I think it's awesome- this is exactly what I need right now.

Anybody feel like making me one of these?;)

Andy Alcala, you're cool.

Andy Alcala is a student originally from Chicago who recreates well known paintings, such as pieces by Warhol, Monet and Pollock, by painting them onto his own face and then photographing them.  I stumbled across his work while looking for images for my art nots last term and have wanted to share them ever since. All images taken from here and here.

He also posts videos of how he does the paintings on his website.

Shopping. Shopping. Shopping.

Now that it's the holidays I've managed to go do a bit of clothes shopping.  Except that in the end I actually bought more shoes than clothes, but I think it's forgivable.  Everything is from Mr Price.

I have another pair of brown lace ups that are similar and I wear them all the time, so I decided it was time to invest in another pair.

I don't usually wear a lot of gold but I particularly liked the combination of it with the pale green colour.

Lastly I got this shirt.

I've been looking for a denim shirt for quite some time, so when I went shopping on Monday I was determined not to leave without one.  Unfortunately, because summer is starting, shops don't have any new winter stock and so all the shirt in the ladies section at Mr Price were the odds and ends- most of them being about three sizes to big for me.  And so came plan B.  Much to the embarrassment of my younger sister I marched into the mens section and came out triumphantly with the smallest one I could find.  I actually prefer this one to the women's ones that I saw as I felt that some of them were a bit 'over decorated'.

Also, thanks to Caitlin for being such an enthusiastic photographer;)
